In the blood-soaked Sabbat Worlds Crusade, the massed ranks of the Imperium battle the dark forces of Chaos for dominion. The grim battlefields of the 41st millennium are blown wide open in the second omnibus of Dan Abnett's Gaunt's Ghosts classics. Facing the dark forces of Chaos in the Sabbat system, the men of the Tanith First-and-Only fight for each other and their Commissar - Ibram Gaunt!

HONOUR GUARD
As the Sabbat Campaign continues, Warmaster Macaroth launches his attack on the Cabal system, his primary goal to recapture three vital fortress worlds, and this is where most historical records are focussed. But there were many subsidiary assaults, among them the liberation of Saint Sabbat's own home planet, the shrine world Hagia.

For six thousand years Hagia has been a sacred place for the Imperium, now it is overrun by Infardi, Chaos troops posing as pilgrims. While fighting to retake the capital city Doctrinopolis, disaster overtakes the Imperial forces, plunging Gaunt deep into despair. The Imperial situation is hopeless - a massive Chaos fleet approaches, and no reinforcements are available; they must evacuate or die. To redeem his reputation and his soul, Gaunt undertakes a desperate mission, with the Ghosts and a division of Pardus Armour, he must travel high up into the mountains to retrieve the saint's holy relics before they are captured by the arch-enemy.

GUNS OF TANITH
The Campaign has ground to halt. Fully three-quarters of the Cabal system has been conquered, but the Imperial forces are now over-stretched, and vulnerable to attack. With the fleet's supply lines cut, General Macaroth must find new sources of fuel, or all will be lost.

Gaunt and his men are sent to Phantine, a world swathed in clouds of pollution so deadly that the cities are built on mountain tops. Cirenholm, and its vital vapour mill, has fallen to Chaos, and it is up to the Ghosts and the Urdeshi Seventh, under command of Colonel Zhyte, to recapture the city. The only way in is via airborne assault, and casualties run dangerously high just landing the Imperial troops. Once inside, the Ghosts' survival skills are tested to the very limit as they struggle to evade the traps and ambushes of the Blood Pact, buying time for their infiltration teams to track down and eliminate the enemy leader Sagittar Slaith.

STRAIGHT SILVER
As the Sabbat Worlds Campaign grinds on, the Imperial forces struggle to consolidate their gains. Attached to the taskforce commanded by General Van Voytz, the Tanith First-and-Only find themselves posted to Aexe Cardinal, a planet that has been locked in a static landwar for nearly fifty years. But what skills can Gaunt's snipers bring to a war that is fought in trenches, where heavy artillery bombardments and gas attacks cut down hundreds, thousands of men at a time?

Determined for his men not to be wasted as cannon fodder by the old-fashioned military tactics of the Aexe Alliance, Gaunt brokers a deal for half the Ghosts to scout the Montorq Woods, hunting for enemy activity. The payment for this devil's bargain is for Gaunt and the remaining Ghosts to be sent on a stealth mission behind the front-line to pinpoint the location of the enemy's new super-siege guns, before they turn the course of the conflict irrevocably in the favour of Chaos.

But as the daemons of their past resurface to haunt many of the Ghosts, so too does the future summon them onwards. Who, or what, is Herodor?

SABBAT MARTYR
A new wave of hope has been unleashed in the Chaos infested Sabbat system. The pilgrims have started to flock to the site where a girl claiming to be the reincarnation of Saint Sabbat has been revealed. The system is aught up in a new wave of faith in the Emperor and Saint Sabbat herself and despite private doubts from the military high command, she proves to be the perfect rallying point for beleaguered Imperial troops. Each man has renewed his faith and is even more determined to rid this holy system of Chaos - whatever the cost!
